Zaddy: A Series Overview
The urban reimagining of Mr. Big from Sex and the City. When a 46-year-old, successful, charismatic architect's world begins to unravel, he's forced to confront the flaws he's avoided for years, navigating personal and professional upheaval that challenges everything he thought he had under control.
Format: A half-hour dramedy
Why a Reimagined Mr. Big Story?
I have always been drawn to stories about reinvention, success, and relationships. Stories where someone who seems to have it all is still figuring out who they are. That is why the concept of an urban reimagined Mr. Big stuck with me.
You know the type: the successful, stylish man who commands attention when he walks into a room. He has the career, the confidence, and the charm. But underneath all that polish, he is wrestling with something deeper. Commitment issues, self-doubt, the weight of expectations.
What I wanted to do was take that archetype and make it real for today’s audience, especially through an urban lens. We all saw "Mr. Big" in Sex and the City, but what happens when you reimagine "A Big" in a way that feels fresh, nuanced, and culturally relevant?
Zaddy subverts the familiar trope of the Black man on the verge of financial ruin. Xen is not struggling to succeed , he's struggling to evolve. The stakes are emotional, psychological, and relational. He’s winning on paper, but if he can’t grow past his own emotional limitations, he risks losing what matters most: real connection, legacy, and peace of mind.
It’s a fresh, urban take on reinvention and self-discovery, diving into “The Refined Age” with humor, swagger, and authenticity.
Who is Zaddy for?
  • what I call "refined age" 40+ men navigating reinvention and self-discovery.
  • Women interested in aspirational, stylish, and emotionally layered storytelling.
  • Younger audiences intrigued by the humor and relatability of navigating life’s transitions.
This is a story about a man who is not just running his business or navigating his friendships, but also navigating himself. It is about what happens when the walls he has built around his life start to crack. When his perfectly compartmentalized world starts to unravel.
What I love about this concept is that it is not just another story about a man who cannot commit or who is afraid of love. It is a deeper exploration of what it means to grow into yourself while the world expects you to have already arrived.
It is also about the relationships that shape him. The women who challenge him, the friends who keep him grounded, and the moments of connection that force him to confront his own limitations.
Why Zaddy Matters Now:
  • It fills a cultural and emotional gap in television by offering a fresh, relatable, and aspirational look at the modern urban refined-aged man.
  • Balances humor and introspection, showing the lighter side of navigating insecurities and triumphs.
At its heart, this story is not just about one man. It is about all of us. It is about what it means to keep evolving, to face the things you have been avoiding, and to realize that success on the outside does not always mean fulfillment on the inside.
For me, this reimagined Mr. Big is not just a character. He is a reflection of where we are at as a culture. He is a reminder that it is okay to still be figuring it out. Because no matter how polished your Bentley is on the outside, you still have to take care of what’s under the hood.
Series Premise
Zaddy follows Xen Gregory, a 46-year-old architect whose life exudes style, success, and magnetism. But beneath the polished surface lies a man coming to terms with the fact that his biggest obstacle might just be himself. As he navigates personal growth, shifting relationships, and professional ambitions, the series explores self-discovery when life stops going according to plan.
Character Journey
As his past entanglements resurface and his present distractions spiral out of control, Xen faces high-stakes challenges in both his personal and professional life. From navigating his complicated relationships with ex-lovers, his tight-knit circle of friends, and a much younger romantic interest, to fighting to further elevate his firm, Zaddy is a story of reinvention, charm, and the messy realities of aging with sharp comedic twists that bring levity to even the most dramatic moments.
Unique Perspective
This series is a fresh, urban take on stories we have seen told for women, but now the lens is on a modern man. Think Sex and the City meets Bel-Air, infused with the charm and complexity of Insecure, Atlanta and Californication. No central conflict but a vulnerable, relatable ride.

Character Descriptions
Xen Gregory (46)
Xen is a man who thrives on control of his image, his career, and his relationships. Stylish, magnetic, and always the smoothest person in the room, he’s built a life that looks flawless from the outside. But as his carefully constructed world begins to falter, Xen is forced to confront what happens when the things he’s always controlled start controlling him.
Marcus Hill (45)
Xen’s best friend and the comedic heartbeat of their tight-knit circle, Marcus is a podcaster with a talent for saying the things no one else will. His humor and unfiltered opinions often push Xen to confront the uncomfortable truths he’d rather avoid. A former football player turned media personality, Marcus balances his laid-back demeanor with the realities of being a divorce' with a kid and a possible.
Luther Johnson (45)
The "I am too old for this shit" friend. Luther is twice married and a father of two. With a dry sense of humor and wisdom earned through experience, he’s the friend who’s thinks he's seen a version of it all. Luther’s hard-earned perspective often clashes with Xen’s lofty ambitions, providing the much needed "the grass is sometimes greenier where your ass is perspective".
Alisha Daniels (43)
Xen’s sharp-tongued, fiercely loyal best friend since college. Alisha is the person who sees through his charm and calls him out on his mess, often whether he’s ready to hear it or not. Always composed and unflinchingly honest, she keeps Xen grounded. But beneath her calm exterior lies a secret tied to their shared history that threatens to upend their friendship.
More Character Descriptions
Jasmine Duplaix (28)

Her connection to Xen ignites a whirlwind of complications, unraveling both personal and professional stakes that neither of them saw coming.
Olivia Francis (42)
Olivia is sharp, poised, and always in control. Qualities that once defined Xen in their past relationship. Now holding the reins to a career-defining project, she’s the gatekeeper to the opportunity Xen desperately needs. A powerhouse in her field, Olivia reentry into Xen’s life reignites old tensions and unearths buried emotions, forcing them both to confront the fine line between love and professionalism.
